After providing quality engineering services throughout central Maryland for 25 wonderful years, owner Peter McConaughy is retiring effective April 1, 2025 and will no longer be accepting new clients.

The Virginia office will be closed as of that date, but the Maryland office will remain open to wrap up ongoing projects and provide limited services for existing clients.

Homeowner Consultation

We have a special interest in meeting the needs of homeowners. We regularly provide engineering consultation about issues such as roof damage from a fallen tree, a crack in a foundation wall, removing a basement column, or expanding a kitchen.

Our design development typically follows the construction process from the foundation to the roof, and then follows the load paths from the roof framing back down to the foundation. This assures that the resulting design is both robust and buildable.

Labor is a major expense with most construction projects, so details that reduce labor often justify slight increases in material costs. For example, uniform member sizes and connection details usually result in less labor. They also reduce the likelihood of fabrication or erection errors.

The best structural design is of little value if it is not clearly conveyed to the builder. For that reason our permit and construction drawings typically go to a greater level of detail than is required for conventional permit drawings.

Familiarity with Construction

Peter served as a construction project manager and owner’s representative on several major construction projects, and previously worked as a framing carpenter. His hands-on experience both informs his engineering design and adds clarity to the details.
