Peter McConaughy, P.E.
Founder, President, and Senior Engineer
Our Founder, President, and Senior Engineer, Peter is licensed in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
As founder and president of McCon Engineering, Peter is known for his creative and practical engineering design.
Whether it’s the custom window wall of a waterfront home, a deep basement for an indoor basketball court, or curving stairs with no visible means of support, Peter is experienced in solving structural design challenges.
His previous experience in construction (from carpenter to construction project manager) informs his work.
Every project benefits from his experience and expertise, and our many repeat clients appreciate the detail and clarity of McCon Engineering’s permit drawings.
Peter graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a concentration in structures.
He is licensed in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

From his home office in Harford County, he provides structural engineering consultation and design throughout the local Maryland area: from Westminster and Mount Airy to Havre de Grace and Essex; from Whiteford to Annapolis, Bowie, and Ellicott City. He has completed projects in New Freedom, Fawn Grove, and York, PA, as well as Alexandria, Fairfax, and Chantilly, VA.
Nathan McConaughy, P.E.
Project Engineer
Nathan, our Project Engineer, personally serves the central Virginia area.
Nate began his career after graduating in 2008 with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from University of Delaware.
Since graduating, Nate has developed a diverse portfolio of experience designing and inspecting structures of all kinds, including historical buildings, new home construction, commercial and office structures, retaining walls, and vehicular and pedestrian bridges.
Whether inspecting a historical timber building or designing a prestressed concrete bridge, Nate has always enjoyed solving the puzzles that structures present.
Building on previous education, Nate completed his Masters of Science in Civil Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 2014.
After moving to central Virginia in 2017, Nate now lives in the Shenandoah Valley with his family.
When he is not doing structural work, Nate enjoys hiking, woodworking, and maintaining the garden.
